Benefits of Membership of the AFG
The Australian Feldenkrais Guild Inc (AFG) is the organisation in Australia whose goal is to work as a collective of practitioners to promote the Feldenkrais Method and to offer support to each other as members.
By joining the guild, you are joining a community of practitioners who are interested in the development, promotion and recognition of our profession. Your membership helps to support advocacy, research, education and community development by practitioners and between practitioners. The AFG aims to be an organisation that is member-driven, and, as we are mainly volunteers, we welcome you to contribute to, and benefit from all that we do.
One of the main benefits of membership is the support that the AFG can offer in the promotion and marketing of your practice via our website. As a member, you will be able to create a profile on the AFG website, so that members of the public can find information about your practice and classes. We are also able to help in advertising your workshops via our mailing list and by listing your events on our website. As an added bonus, the AFG website is also able to assist with bookings and ticketing for your events. These marketing and promotion benefits are available to most, but not all, membership categories, with Certified Members being entitled to the greatest number of benefits.
The AFG oversees the certification process which is open to all fully qualified practitioners. Certification is important because it helps to protect the integrity of the Method and provides practitioners with a credible face for their profession. The AFG currently has two certification trademarks registered with IP Australia, Feldenkrais Method® and CFP®. As a Certified Member, you would be eligible to use these trademarks thereby identifying yourself as a qualified Feldenkrais Practitioner who has attained a level of competence, and who continues to be involved in the philosophy and practice of the Feldenkrais Method®. To maintain certification, you would be required to maintain a continuing education portfolio of 30 hours of activity per year. As an AFG member, you will have access to a wide variety of resources to assist with this.
AFG members have exclusive access to the AFG Member Library - a vast collection of books, transcripts, video and audio recordings many in a digitalised format as well as the Member Video Portal which houses recordings of online events hosted by the AFG including advanced trainings, webinars and lectures. Members also receive discounts to AFG hosted continuing education events and a 10% discount on resources purchased through the International Feldenkrais Federation (IFF).
In addition to these resources, you will also gain the collective knowledge and support of the community. Being a member of the AFG allows you stay connected to the Feldenkrais community through our mentoring program, as well as other face to face and online gatherings where knowledge and experience is shared.
More recently, the Guild has begun a partnership with Gallagher as the endorsed provider of insurance and risk management services. This includes access to members only rates and advice tailored to the particular needs of a Feldenkrais practitioner.
